8/26/2025 elegy for a snake

The field sat at an angle with the sky
The mountains eating a chip
You were focused more than I'd ever seen you

I saw you throw your shoe at a snake in the yard
It hit the dirt and the snake slithered away-
"It's a snake with bad intentions, it may hurt the dog."

Is every corner now your home?
The setting moon contains your face, did you know?
You live under a stone rising upward

The morning comes and goes
I kiss you goodbye as you leave for work
People are odd before they vanish...
